Nancy Elizabeth Peters Vermilyea

Passed away on December 02, 2023

Nancy Elizabeth Peters Vermilyea

Nancy Elizabeth Peters Vermilyea, a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, left this world peacefully at her home in Savannah, Georgia, on December 2nd, 2023, at the age of 74. Nancy was born on July 15, 1949, in Asheville, North Carolina, to the late Charles Cline Peters and Mary Sullivan Peters. She is now in heaven with her husband of 45 years, Richard "Dick" H. Vermilyea, who went before her.

Nancy's journey began in Riegelwood, NC, where she enjoyed horse riding, basketball, and cheerleading. She had a big heart for animals, especially dogs.

She had a successful career as a Property Manager at Bethany Homes (Boxford, MA) and National Church Residents (Atlanta GA). She was devoted to her Church, Second Congregational (Boxford, MA), and Cokes Chapel (Sharpsburg, GA).

Nancy was a wonderful wife and a caring mother, who made her large family her priority. She helped with class projects, practices, and field trips. She was the glue that held her family together. Her greatest joy was being “Grammy” and cherished every moment with her grandchildren. Nancy enjoyed reading, cooking, puzzles, kitchen table conversations, taking your money playing poker, and was always up for a good party.

Nancy was a self-proclaimed beach bum, finding solace, and joy in the sands of Wrightsville Beach. Thanksgiving at her home became an annual family tradition, with pumpkin bread, kickball, flashlight tag, and backyard creek treasure hunts. She fought and beat cancer multiple times, becoming a passionate advocate for cancer survivors.

Nancy is survived by her children and their spouses: Bruce (Jessica), Scott (Cindy), Jeffrey (Jennifer), Todd (Laurie), Jeffrey Sumner (Sara), Angela (Jason Jones), Sally (Scot Crockett), Shaun (Melissa). She leaves behind 25 grandchildren, Ryan (Erik Rasmussen), Kelsie (Jordan Salles), Matthew, Christian (Lauren), Patrick, Annie, Paul (Audrey), Sam(Giselle), Jack, Jim (Abby), Ike, Kate, Claire, Luke, Elizabeth, Caroline, Mary-Charles, Maggie, Lillian, Meredith, Ellie, Bryn, Grace, Mya, and Ben; 10 great-grandchildren, Macie, Hayden, Graham, Elsy, Emmy, Madilyn, Donovan, Margot, Francis, and Jones, with the family continuing to grow.

In addition to her immediate family, Nancy is survived by her siblings, Carol (John) Badgett and Charles (Louise) Peters. Her memory will live on in the hearts of those fortunate enough to know and love her.

In lieu of flowers. memorials may be made to Cokes Chapel.

GUEST BOOK

Many prayers for my friends I consider extended family. Nancy raised one of my heroes her daughter Angie. To the family please remember to still gather around the table at thanksgiving to make such a deserving and loving woman smile down from heaven. I love you all.

- Lauren Lassiter, Fairburn, GA

In sharing an amazing neighborhood with Angie and her family, I in turn met Mrs Nancy. She was so kind. My hope is that Angie and her family can eventually think of her mother with a smile and not through tears. Praying for peace and grace as you navigate this enormous loss.

- Jan Storms, Senoia, Ga
